Me a Farmers Wife????

The day I met Zeb I did not know the difference between hay or straw.  Don't get me wrong I was a small town girl, coming from a town with a measly 400 people, but I was not a farm girl.  I would not know the first thing about milking a cow, even though my brother worked at a dairy farm throughout high school, the closest I got to that situation was doing his laundry one time and then breaking out in a rash the next day.  Needless to say I had been on a farm since both of my grandfathers owned farms and my parents both grew up on a farm but I did not know the first thing about the work that went into a farm not until I started dating Zeb.

Zeb and I started dating the summer of 2003, I was home for the summer from college hanging out with an old high school buddy.  She introduced me to Zeb and I in turn tried to hook him up with my college roommate.  Quite honestly I thought he deserved better and I thought the world of my college roommate.  Here was this guy with a great smile and a good heart and I thought I didn't deserve him.  Zeb had other thoughts thank goodness because 9 years and 3 kids later I thank God everyday he chose me!

Over these past 9 years I realized a few things about being a farmers wife.  First off I better know the difference between hay & straw!  The second lesson I learned on our first, second, third, fourth, well pretty much everyday date:  Don't ever expect him to be on time!  Be happy when he is only 30 minutes late.  Third:  Get to know the area because there will be times you will need to pick him up in a field that you cannot see from the road and his directions usually consist of you will pass a corn field on the right a soybean field on the left then you will see this dirt driveway covered in grass that you really can't see you need to turn in there and keep driving until you see my tractor"  As I drive into particular field I just pray to God either no one comes out with a shot gun or the children of the corn was in fact a movie and not real.  Also you better know the fastest route to each and every implement dealer within a 2 hour radius.  And just about every day I'm learning a new lesson and that is what this blog is all about!

This blog came to me one evening as I was sitting around talking to a group of farm wives and I realized each of us have such similar stories and quite honestly at times I think I could use a support group.  So a blog is the next best thing since I have kids I don't have time to attend a support group.  So here it is my support group and I pray others can find some support from here as well because we are not alone there is a whole lot of farmers' wives out there and we really do need eachother.
